Privacy Policy

SettleScore (settlescore.com) Last Revised: September 28, 2026

Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy describes how Best Pi Firm, LLC (also referred to as BestPIFirm, LLC), a Delaware limited liability company operating as SettleScore ("SettleScore," "we," "us," or "our"), handles personal information that we collect through SettleScore.com, the additional BestPIFirm.com site domain, and any related websites, applications, and services that link to this Privacy Policy, through our subscribers and partners, through our marketing initiatives, when you apply for a job with us, and in connection with other interactions with you (collectively, the "Site" or the "Services").

Please read the Notice at Collection immediately below for a high-level overview of our practices, and the remainder of this Privacy Policy for the complete description.

Important context for this Policy. SettleScore is an information and research platform. We publish profiles, case result data, and rankings concerning personal injury law firms and attorneys, and we offer tools that allow a consumer to identify firms and, if the consumer chooses, to send that consumer's contact information and case description to firms the consumer selects. We are not a law firm, we do not provide legal advice, and we are not a lawyer referral service. Nothing in this Privacy Policy creates an attorney-client relationship, and information you submit through the Site is not protected by the attorney-client privilege. Please see our Terms of Service for the full terms governing your use of the Site.

Personal Information We Collect

1. Information you provide directly to us

  • Contact information, such as your first and last name, email address, postal address, telephone number, and, for attorneys and firm personnel, your firm, professional title, and bar admission information.
  • Account information, such as your username, password, and account preferences.
  • Case inquiry and matching information, such as the information you enter into our "Find My Lawyer" matching tool or "Send Your Case Details" intake form. This may include the type of matter, a description of the incident and your injuries, the date and location of the incident, medical treatment you received, insurance information, whether a claim has been filed, applicable deadlines you identify, whether you are currently represented by counsel, and your preferred method and times of contact.
  • Firm profile content, such as the descriptions, biographies, practice area information, case results, images, logos, and other materials that a subscribing law firm submits for publication on the Site.
  • Payment information, such as billing contact and address. Payment card numbers are collected and processed directly by our third-party payment processor; we do not store full payment card numbers on our systems.
  • Feedback or correspondence, such as information you provide when you contact us with questions, corrections, removal requests, feedback, or otherwise correspond with us.
  • Marketing information, such as your preferences for receiving our communications and details about how you engage with them.
  • Job application information, as described in "Job Applicants" below.
  • Other information not specifically listed here, which we will use as described in this Privacy Policy or as otherwise disclosed at the time of collection.

2. Information we obtain from third parties and public sources

  • Publicly available law firm and attorney information. We collect information about personal injury law firms and attorneys from publicly available sources, including law firm websites and published case result pages, state bar and licensing directories, court records and dockets, published decisions, verdict and settlement reporters, press releases, news reports, and other public sources. This information is professional and commercial in nature and concerns the practice of law.
  • Firm-submitted information. Subscribing firms may submit or correct information about themselves, their attorneys, and their case results. Firm-submitted content is subject to our verification process before publication.
  • Social media information. We may maintain pages on platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube. When you visit or interact with our pages on those platforms, the platform's privacy policy governs the platform's collection and use of your information. You or the platform may provide us with information about you, which we will handle in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
  • Service providers and partners. We may receive information from analytics providers, hosting and infrastructure providers, email and messaging providers, fraud prevention and verification providers, marketing partners, data providers, and recruiters.

3. Information collected automatically

We and our service providers may automatically log information about you, your computer or mobile device, and your interactions with the Site and our communications over time, including:

  • Device data, such as operating system type and version, device manufacturer and model, browser type and version, screen resolution, device type, IP address, unique identifiers, language settings, mobile carrier, network information, and general location such as city, state, or region.
  • Online activity data, such as pages or screens viewed, searches run, filters applied, profiles viewed, how long you spent on a page, navigation paths, referring and exit pages, access times, and duration of access.
  • Email engagement data, such as whether you opened an email we sent and whether you clicked a link in it, along with the associated date, time, and IP address.

We use the following tools for automatic collection:

  • Cookies, which are small text files a website stores on a visitor's device to identify the visitor's browser or to store information or settings. We use strictly necessary cookies to operate the Site, authenticate sessions, and protect against fraud and abuse, and we use analytics cookies to understand how the Site is used.
  • Local storage technologies, such as HTML5 local storage, which provide functionality similar to cookies but can store larger amounts of data.
  • Web beacons, also known as pixel tags or clear GIFs, which are used to indicate that a page was accessed or an email was opened, or that certain content was viewed or clicked.
  • Server logs, which record requests made to our servers, including IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent, and response status.

Consumer Health Data and Sensitive Information

If you submit a case inquiry or matching request, the information you provide may describe your physical injuries, medical treatment, or health condition. Depending on your state of residence, that information may be treated as consumer health data or sensitive personal information under applicable law, including the Washington My Health My Data Act, the Nevada consumer health data law, and the California Consumer Privacy Act.

We apply the following practices to this information:

  1. Collection is entirely voluntary and purpose-limited. We collect it only when you choose to submit it, and only to evaluate your inquiry, transmit it to the law firms you select, respond to you, maintain records of the inquiry, and satisfy our security, recordkeeping, and legal obligations.
  2. We do not use it for advertising or profiling. We do not use case inquiry information — including any health information in it — for interest-based advertising, for measurement or attribution of advertising, or to build advertising audiences or profiles.
  3. We do not deploy advertising or social media pixels on our intake and matching pages. Google Analytics runs on these pages for site traffic measurement independently of the optional site analytics choice. We do not intentionally send the contents of your case inquiry fields to Google Analytics.
  4. We do not sell it. We do not sell consumer health data, and we do not offer it, in any form, to litigation funders, pre-settlement lenders, insurers, marketers, data brokers, or any other party for their own purposes. See "What We Do Not Do."
  5. We disclose it only to the law firms you select and to service providers strictly necessary to deliver and store your inquiry, and only as described in "How We Disclose Personal Information."
  6. We obtain your affirmative, separate consent at the point of collection for the collection of consumer health data and for its transmission to the law firms you select, and we honor withdrawals of that consent on a going-forward basis as described in "Your Rights and Choices."

Please do not submit more information than is necessary to describe your inquiry, and please do not submit information that another person has asked you to keep confidential.

How We Use Personal Information

  1. Providing the Services. To operate, maintain, secure, and provide the Site and the Services, including publishing firm profiles, case result data, and rankings; running searches and filters; operating the matching tool; creating and administering accounts; processing subscriptions and payments; and providing customer support.
  2. Transmitting inquiries you choose to send. To evaluate which law firms may be appropriate for your inquiry, to present those firms to you, and to transmit your contact information and case description to the firms you select.
  3. Communicating with you. To respond to your requests, provide support, and send announcements, updates, security alerts, service notices, surveys, and administrative messages.
  4. Verifying content. To verify information submitted by law firms and to investigate correction or removal requests.
  5. Improving, monitoring, and personalizing the Services. To understand how the Site is used, to debug and improve it, to develop new features, and to personalize your experience and our communications.
  6. Research, development, and analytics. To analyze and improve the Services and our business. As part of these activities, we create aggregated and de-identified data. Our firm-level competitive intelligence and analytics products are built from publicly available and firm-submitted professional and commercial information about law firms and from aggregate, firm-level recovery data — not from consumer case inquiries. Where we use automated systems, including machine learning or artificial intelligence, to extract, structure, classify, or verify case result data, we apply those systems to professional and commercial information about law firms and attorneys. We do not use consumer case inquiry content to train models that are made available to other customers.
  7. Direct marketing. To send you marketing communications as permitted by law, including newsletters and updates on news, features, and events. You may opt out at any time as described below.
  8. Compliance and protection. To comply with applicable laws, lawful requests, and legal process; to protect our, your, or others' rights, privacy, safety, or property, including making and defending legal claims; to audit our processes; to enforce our Terms of Service; and to prevent, identify, investigate, and deter fraudulent, harmful, unauthorized, unethical, or illegal activity, including scraping, cyberattacks, and identity theft.

How We Disclose Personal Information

  1. Law firms you select. If you submit a case inquiry or matching request, we transmit the information you provide to the law firm or firms that you identify or select at the time of submission. This disclosure is made at your direction and only to the firms you choose. At the point of submission we identify the firm or firms that will receive your inquiry. We are not compensated on a per-inquiry, per-lead, per-click, or per-case basis for these transmissions; access to inquiries directed to a firm is an included feature of that firm's flat-rate subscription. Once a firm receives your information, that firm's own privacy practices and professional obligations govern its handling of your information, and you should direct requests concerning that firm's records to the firm. A firm's receipt of your inquiry does not create an attorney-client relationship. See our Terms of Service.
  2. Service providers. To third-party companies and individuals that provide services on our behalf or help us operate the Services, such as hosting and cloud infrastructure, data storage, email and SMS delivery, customer support, analytics, payment processing, identity verification and fraud prevention, security, and professional advisors including lawyers, accountants, auditors, and insurers. We require service providers to process personal information only for the purposes for which we engaged them.
  3. Affiliates. To our subsidiaries and affiliates, for purposes consistent with this Privacy Policy.
  4. Published content. Professional and commercial information about law firms, attorneys, and case results is published on the Site and is publicly accessible, and may be indexed by search engines and accessed through our application programming interfaces or data products where offered. Consumer case inquiry information is never published.
  5. Authorities and others. To law enforcement, government authorities, courts, and private parties, as we believe in good faith to be necessary or appropriate for the compliance and protection purposes described above, including in response to subpoenas and other legal process.
  6. Business transfers. In connection with an actual or potential corporate transaction, such as a financing, merger, consolidation, acquisition, reorganization, divestiture, or sale of assets, or in a bankruptcy or dissolution. In such a case, we will make reasonable efforts to require the recipient to honor this Privacy Policy, and any transfer of consumer case inquiry information will remain subject to the restrictions described in this Privacy Policy.

What We Do Not Do

These are commitments, not aspirations, and they are material to how the Services are designed:

  1. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising, as those terms are defined under applicable state privacy laws.
  2. We do not accept payment for rankings. No payment of any kind — subscription, advertising, or otherwise — affects a firm's ranking, score, or placement in search results or rankings. Rankings are determined solely by our published methodology.
  3. We do not charge law firms per lead, per click, or per case, and we do not divide or share in any legal fee or recovery.
  4. We do not include consumer case inquiry information in our analytics or intelligence products. Products offered to law firms, litigation funders, pre-settlement lenders, and other subscribers contain firm-level aggregate and professional information only. Consumer inquiry data is segregated from those products.
  5. We do not disclose consumer case inquiry information to litigation funders, pre-settlement lenders, insurers, medical providers, marketers, lead aggregators, or data brokers.
  6. We do not deploy advertising or social media pixels on our intake and matching pages, and we do not use case inquiry information for advertising purposes. Google Analytics measures visits to these pages separately from the optional site analytics choice.
  7. We do not sell, rent, lease, or otherwise disclose your SMS opt-in data or telephone number to third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.

Information About Law Firms, Attorneys, and Case Results

A substantial portion of the content on the Site consists of professional and commercial information about law firms and attorneys, including firm names, office locations and contact information, attorney names and biographies, practice areas, bar admissions, published case results, and rankings derived from that information.

  • Sources. This information is obtained from publicly available sources — including law firm websites and the case results those firms have themselves published, bar and licensing directories, court records and dockets, published decisions, verdict and settlement reporters, and news reports — and from firms that submit or correct their own information.
  • Publicly available information. Under several state privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act, "personal information" excludes publicly available information, including information lawfully made available from federal, state, or local government records. Information contained in court records, dockets, and licensing records, and information a firm or attorney has itself published, is generally not personal information subject to those laws.
  • Rankings are opinion. Rankings, scores, and comparative assessments published on the Site are our editorial assessments, based on the methodology we publish on the Site. They are not statements of fact about the quality of any attorney's services, are not endorsements, and are not a guarantee or prediction of any outcome.
  • Corrections and removal. If you are an attorney or authorized representative of a law firm and you believe information about you or your firm on the Site is inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date, email privacy@bestpifirm.com with the URL of the page, the specific information at issue, the correction requested, and supporting documentation. We will investigate and, where the information is inaccurate, correct or remove it. We may decline to remove accurate information drawn from public records or from a firm's own published materials, or information whose publication is protected expression, but we will note a documented dispute where appropriate. We do not condition any correction on the purchase of a subscription.
  • Prior results. Prior results do not guarantee or predict a similar outcome in any other matter. Case results reflect the specific facts, jurisdiction, insurance coverage, and legal posture of the matter in which they were obtained, and amounts reported as verdicts may have been reduced, vacated, settled, or remain uncollected.

Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies

We use strictly necessary cookies to operate and secure the Site and to maintain your session, and analytics cookies and similar technologies to understand and improve how the Site is used. Google Analytics runs on all pages, including intake and matching pages, regardless of your site analytics choice. Google Analytics may use cookies and collect information such as pages visited and device and network details. Our separate first-party site analytics identifiers and events are on by default unless you turn them off through "Cookie choices" on the Site or your browser sends Global Privacy Control. This choice does not turn off Google Analytics. We do not use cookies or similar technologies for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not deploy advertising pixels on our intake and matching pages.

You can limit tracking in the following ways. These tools are not associated with us, are generally specific to the browser and device on which you exercise them, and we cannot guarantee that they work as their providers advertise:

  • Browser cookie controls. Most browsers allow you to remove or reject cookies through their settings. For more information, including how to see and manage the cookies set on your device, visit https://www.allaboutcookies.org/.
  • Privacy-focused browsers and plug-ins. You can use a browser with privacy features or install plug-ins configured to block third-party cookies and trackers.
  • Analytics opt-out. Where we use Google Analytics, you can opt out by installing the browser add-on available at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
  • Global Privacy Control. When your browser sends this signal, we turn off our optional site analytics. This signal does not turn off Google Analytics; the Google Analytics opt-out add-on above is a separate option. Learn more at https://globalprivacycontrol.org/.

Do Not Track. Some browsers can be configured to send "Do Not Track" signals. There is no common industry standard for responding to these signals, and we do not currently respond to them, other than as described above with respect to the Global Privacy Control. To learn more, visit https://www.allaboutdnt.com/.

SMS and Text Messaging

We respect your privacy with respect to your mobile information. If you provide your mobile telephone number and consent to text messages, we may use your number and related SMS information to send you messages about your inquiry, service and account notifications, and, where you have separately consented, marketing messages. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies.

We do not sell or share your mobile information, including your telephone number, with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Your text messaging opt-in data and consent — including your telephone number and the fact that you agreed to receive texts — will not be shared with any third party, except as necessary with service providers that deliver the messages on our behalf. Where you submit a case inquiry, your contact information is transmitted only to the law firm or firms you select, at your direction, as described above.

To stop receiving text messages from us, reply STOP to any message. Reply HELP for assistance, or contact us at privacy@bestpifirm.com. Opting out of text messages from us does not opt you out of communications from a law firm you asked to contact you; to stop those, contact that firm directly.

Your Rights and Choices

1. Opt out of marketing communications

You may opt out of marketing emails by following the unsubscribe instructions in any marketing message we send, or by contacting us. You may continue to receive service-related and other non-marketing messages, such as messages about your account, your inquiry, or security.

2. Withdraw consent to an inquiry already submitted

If you submitted a case inquiry and no longer wish us to retain it, contact us at privacy@bestpifirm.com and we will delete it from our active systems, subject to the limits described below. Because your inquiry was transmitted to the law firm or firms you selected at the time of submission, we cannot retrieve or delete information already delivered to those firms. To have a firm delete your information or stop contacting you, contact that firm directly.

3. Requests concerning your personal information

Depending on your state of residence and the nature of your interactions with us, you may request the following with respect to personal information we hold about you:

  • To know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, our purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties to whom we disclose it. We have made much of this information available without a request by including it in this Privacy Policy.
  • Access to a copy of your personal information, in a portable and readily usable format where applicable and technically feasible.
  • Correction of personal information that is inaccurate or out of date.
  • Deletion of personal information we maintain about you.
  • To opt out of the sale of personal information, of sharing or processing of personal information for targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising, and of profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. We do not engage in any of these activities, so there is nothing to opt out of; we describe the right here for completeness.
  • To limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information. We use sensitive personal information only for the purposes described in "Consumer Health Data and Sensitive Information," which are the purposes permitted without a limitation right; you may nonetheless ask us to delete it.
  • To appeal a denial of a request, where your state's law provides an appeal right.

How to make a request. Email privacy@bestpifirm.com, or write to us at the address in "How to Contact Us," with enough detail for us to understand and evaluate the request. Before responding, we may verify your identity by matching identifying information you provide against information we hold, and we may ask for additional information where necessary. Depending on your state, you may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf; we will require the agent to provide proof of identity and authority. We do not charge a fee to respond unless a request is excessive, repetitive, or manifestly unfounded, in which case we will tell you why and provide an estimate before proceeding. You are entitled to exercise these rights free from discrimination, and we will not deny you goods or services, charge you different prices, or provide you a different level or quality of service because you exercised them.

Timing. We will respond within the period required by applicable law, generally within 45 days of receipt, and we will tell you in writing if we need an extension.

Whether these laws apply to us. Best Pi Firm, LLC may not meet the revenue, data volume, or data-sale thresholds that make the California Consumer Privacy Act and several other state privacy laws mandatory. Nevertheless, as a matter of practice and out of respect for the privacy of the people who use the Site, we voluntarily extend the rights described in this section to residents of every state, and we will honor the substantive commitments in this Privacy Policy regardless of whether a particular statute applies to us. Terms defined in a state privacy statute have the same meaning when used in this Privacy Policy.

4. Limits on your rights and choices

In some cases your choices may be limited, including where fulfilling your request would impair the rights of others, our ability to provide a service you requested, our ability to detect or prevent fraud or security incidents, our ability to comply with legal obligations, or our ability to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims. We may retain records of an inquiry, a correction request, or a transaction where necessary for those purposes. We may also decline to remove accurate information drawn from public records or from a firm's or attorney's own published materials, as described above. If you are not satisfied with how we handled your request, you may submit a complaint by contacting us as provided below, and you may have the right to complain to your state attorney general.

Security

We employ technical, organizational, and physical safeguards designed to protect the personal information we collect, including encryption of data in transit over HTTPS/TLS, encryption of data at rest, access controls and least-privilege permissions, logging and monitoring, and segregation of consumer case inquiry data from our analytics and intelligence products. No security measures are failsafe, however, and we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information. If your account is password protected, we recommend that you use a unique password, that you not disclose it to anyone, and that you sign out at the end of each session, particularly on a shared or public computer.

Retention of Personal Information

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, in accordance with our retention practices and applicable legal and regulatory obligations. To determine the appropriate retention period, we consider the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure, the purposes for which we process it and whether we can achieve those purposes by other means, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Case inquiry information is retained for the period necessary to transmit the inquiry, respond to you, address any dispute concerning the inquiry, and satisfy our legal obligations, and is then deleted or de-identified. Professional and commercial information about law firms, attorneys, and case results published on the Site is retained for as long as it remains accurate and relevant to the Services, subject to the correction and removal process described above. Aggregated and de-identified data may be retained indefinitely.

Job Applicants

When you apply for a position with us, we collect the information you provide in connection with your application, including business and personal contact information, professional credentials and skills, educational and work history, and other information contained in a resume or provided during the interview process. This may include demographic or diversity information that you voluntarily provide. We may also collect information from other relevant sources, such as recruiters, references, employment research firms, identity verification services, and information you have made publicly available, for example on LinkedIn, and we may conduct background checks where permitted by law.

Throughout the recruitment process we may supplement your information in connection with the assessment of your application, including by recording interview notes and the views of those considering your application. If you accept an offer, your information will be incorporated into your employee record. We use applicant information to conduct our recruitment activities, evaluate candidates, communicate with candidates, monitor recruitment statistics, and administer the employment relationship, and we may use and disclose it for the compliance and protection purposes described above.

Children

The Site is not directed to, and is not intended for use by, children under 18 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you are a parent or legal guardian submitting an inquiry concerning the injury of a minor, please submit the inquiry in your own name as the minor's parent or guardian and provide only the information necessary to describe the matter. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 18 in a manner inconsistent with applicable law, we will delete it. We have no actual knowledge that we sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.

Other Sites and Services

The Site contains links to law firm websites and to other websites, applications, and services operated by third parties, including the firms we profile. These links are not an endorsement of, or a representation that we are affiliated with, any third party, and we do not control and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices. Other sites and services follow different rules regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.

United States Only

The Site is hosted in the United States and is intended for users located in the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you do so at your own risk, and you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those of your jurisdiction.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last Revised" date above and post the revised Privacy Policy on the Site, and, where required by law, we will provide additional notice or obtain your consent. We will not use or disclose previously collected personal information in a materially different manner than described at the time of collection without providing notice and, where required, obtaining consent.
